HALLDALE QUARRY Halldale Developments - MPSL Planning and Design
One of the most exciting things about what we do with CGI is our ability to bring together the vision of a team of planners, architects and developers, and give life to their imagination. Nowhere is this more true than the regeneration scheme proposed for the revitalisation of Halldale Quarry at Matlock, Derbyshire. Plans for the development of a 20 acre, mixed use scheme - including a hotel, cinema, offices, car show rooms and various other retail units - would need to be communicated to local residents, businesses, councillors and potential investors, before any planning application were to be sought. As part of the master planning process, Arc was commissioned by MPSL Planning and Design and GKA Planning to produce a selection of still and moving imagery that would help developer Halldale Properties to communicate the design and vision to the local community.
Due to the sheer scale of the project, we split delivery into several phases. Prior to receiving the building plans we started work on building the landscape, working up some basic massing studies enabling us to get a feel for how the buildings would sit in their surroundings. Working closely with the team from MPSL, we began creating the still images from plans and elevations as they came from the drawing board. We produced six high resolution CGIs over a four week period which were then submitted with the planning application.
Once this phase was complete, we began work on the three-minute movie which required the building of additional landscaped areas and updates to some of the building designs. We also recommended the addition of internal footage of the proposed hotel which meant an overall production time to eight weeks.
The animation has been presented to councillors and will form part of a future public consultation. Following the submission of the planning application, the images and movie were requested by the Matlock Mercury which posted them on their website alongside the news story outlining the proposals. As yet, no decision has been made on the planning application.
